On 28 March 2017, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Sabyr Imandosov received an EU delegation led by Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service. The meeting at the SCO Secretariat was held at the Europeans' request.
The parties held a substantive exchange of opinions on current international issues of mutual concern.
The SCO Deputy Secretary-General congratulated the guests on the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, which established the European Economic Community, updated them on the key events to be held at the organisation before the SCO Summit in Astana in June 2017, and talked about the SCO's key goals and priorities under its Development Strategy towards 2025.
The high EU official spoke about the EU's current activities and its priorities for the near future. He pointed out Europeans' interest in promoting cooperation with the SCO.
The parties also exchanged opinions on regional security issues.
The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
