A regular meeting of the SCO Press Club was held at the SCO Secretariat on 23 March 2017. The meeting was chaired by SCO Press Club President Andrei Kirillov.
Media representatives from the SCO member states held a friendly discussion of organisational and operational matters and coordinated the club's plans for the near future. They pointed to the importance of expanding the club's membership by admitting representatives from the SCO observer countries and dialogue partners.
The journalists also elected Sadyk Akizhanov, a Beijing-based correspondent of Kazakhstan's international news agency Kazinform, to the post of the club's second vice-president.
SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov met with the Press Club members to update them about the key events to be held ahead of the main event this year, the SCO summit in Astana.
The SCO Press Club was established on 24 May 2013 at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing, China. It is comprised of over 20 representatives of international information agencies of the SCO family accredited in China. Andrei Kirillov, head of the TASS bureau in China, is President of the SCO Press Club.
