On 1 March 2025, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Piao Yangfan, who headed the SCO Monitoring Mission to the elections to the Majlisi Oli (Parliament) of the Republic of Tajikistan, held an organising meeting in Dushanbe for international monitors representing the SCO member states: the Republic of Belarus, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
She informed her colleagues of the Mission’s objectives and working principles, focusing on an unbiased, independent and objective nature of electoral monitoring, the imperativeness of the principle of non-interference in internal affairs of the host state, and the need to respect the national laws of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The participants in the meeting also discussed the distribution of monitors by polling stations on the voting day (March 2) in order to ensure maximum representation and geographical coverage.
