On 13 February 2025, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev met with Assistant Foreign Minister of China Liu Bin.
An in-depth discussion was held on the entire range of issues on the SCO agenda, including preparations for the upcoming meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council and other events scheduled as part of the current Chinese chairmanship. Special focus was placed on the prospects for improving the organisation’s activities.
SCO Secretary-General’s Meeting with Assistant Foreign Minister of China
The Secretary-General expressed his gratitude to the Chinese side for its significant long-term contribution to promoting cooperation within the SCO, emphasising that one of the Secretariat team’s priority tasks this year is to support the work of China’s SCO chairmanship, as well as to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of interaction.
In turn, Liu Bin informed his counterpart about the preparations for this year’s upcoming SCO summit and China’s current priorities within the SCO. He congratulated the Secretary-General on assuming office, thanked him for his active work and assured him that the Chinese side was ready to provide comprehensive support for the Secretariat’s efforts to promote practical cooperation and strengthen the SCO’s international authority.
