On 6 February 2025, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev addressed the New Delhi-based Indian Council of World Affairs on “SCO and India: Strengthening Regional Synergies for Cooperation in Eurasia” as part of his official visit to the Republic of India. The appearance took place at the invitation of the host country.
He focused on the SCO’s multifaceted activities with a special reference to India’s considerable contribution to the Organisation’s development. He also highlighted the existing potential for progressive development of cooperation within the SCO.
Mr Yermekbayev stated that the SCO provided a reliable platform for promoting regional and global agenda, such as ensuring security, economic development, and cultural and humanitarian collaboration.
He commended the One Land, One Family, One Future initiative put forward by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the concept of Community of Common Destiny for Mankind promoted by China, the SCO’s current Chairman, and a number of other important ideas suggested by SCO member states and aimed at maintaining multipolarity, regional and global solidarity, and mutual regard for each other’s interests for the sake of shared prosperity.
He described the ongoing effort to upgrade the mechanisms for counteracting challenges and threats to security, current trends in trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation within the SCO, and the SCO’s international cooperation as a whole.
In conclusion, Secretary-General Yermekbaev answered a number of questions concerning regional and international agendas.
