On 24 January 2025, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev visited the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies (BISS) during his visit to the Republic of Belarus.
BISS Director Oleg Makarov spoke about the national think tank’s mission and main avenues of research, as well as the principles it is guided by. The parties underscored their interest in spurring and promoting the SCO’s analytical track, especially in the context of Belarus joining the Organisation as a full-fledged member, which makes BISS eligible to become part of the existing formats of interaction within the group, such as the SCO Forum and the Consortium of SCO Economic Analytical Centres.

The Secretary-General noted the importance of conducting analytical
research adding that, once fully operational, this “second track” will contribute to further improving the organisation’s work and increasing its practical impact.
