On 4 October 2024, a delegation of the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, headed by SCO Deputy Secretary-General Oleg Kopylov, took part in the ceremony of publishing the Global Innovation Index 2024 report in Astana. The ceremony was organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
Attendees included heads of specialised agencies from the Eurasian region’s countries, representatives of international organisations and leading research organisations and think tanks.
Addressing a session on new regional approaches towards innovation incentives, Oleg Kopylov informed those present about SCO priorities and the Organisation’s current efforts to introduce innovations, develop digitisation and the information and communications technology.
According to the SCO Deputy Secretary-General, “innovation growth can seriously contribute to all-inclusive sustainable development and, most importantly, to improving people’s well-being. The SCO prioritises this issue.”
The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) formulates the Global Innovation Index that evaluates the innovation performance of 131 countries and economies worldwide in line with over 80 parameters.
The Global Innovation Index 2024 lists four SCO member states (India, Iran, Kazakhstan and China) as leaders in their respective subregions.
