On 8 July, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming met with Vice President of Iran and Head of Iran's Department of Environment Ali Salajegheh in Qingdao on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Forum on Green Development.
The Secretary-General congratulated Iran on the success of the presidential election and appreciated the participation of its high-ranking national delegation in the events in Qingdao, including the SCO forum Year of Environment 2024. It was noted that the Islamic Republic, as an SCO member state, has made noticeable contributions to advancing the organisation's agenda in various fields, including ecology and environmental protection. Zhang Ming expressed confidence that the Iranian side under the leadership of President Masoud Pezeshkian will keep on providing for the region’s green, wholesome and sustainable development.
In his turn Ali Salajegheh emphasised that his country adheres to the concept of green development, attaches great importance to ecological and environmental management and has already made tangible progress in this area. He expressed his full support for the SCO's efforts to promote green development and readiness to continue to build mutually advantageous cooperation on the environmental track within the SCO.
