On 25-26 June 2024, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming took part in the 8th China-Eurasia EXPO in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China.
The event was organised by China’s Ministry of Trade and Foreign Ministry, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The theme of the event was New Opportunities of the Silk Road, New Vitality for Eurasian Cooperation.
The opening ceremony was attended by leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the heads of ministries, local government agencies and diplomats from over 10 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Iran and Pakistan, as well as representatives of the UN, the Arab League and other international organisations. The exhibition featured over 1,000 enterprises and organisations from over 50 countries and regions, as well as 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities of China.

During the event, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming took part in a meeting with senior officials from the Communist Party of China Committee and the Government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, as well as the heads of Chinese and foreign delegations. In his remarks, SCO Secretary-General thanked the leaders of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region for their long-time attention and support for the SCO. He emphasised the important role of the China-Eurasia EXPO in expanding economic, trade and cultural exchanges between regional countries. Zhang Ming praised the natural advantages of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and its impressive potential for cooperation with SCO member states in various fields. He said: “As always, the SCO Secretariat will support deeper mutually beneficial cooperation between member states and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in various fields. Together, we will promote regional prosperity and development, work to preserve peace and stability in the region.”
