On 7 June 2024, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming met with Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan, during his official visit to the country.
The Foreign Minister praised the significance of the SCO Secretary- General’s first visit to Armenia following Armenia’s attainment of a dialogue partner status.
During the conversation, Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted the alignment of the Organisation’s principles and goals with Armenia’s development concept, emphasising that cooperation with the SCO remains a national priority for Armenia. The Foreign Minister expressed readiness for enhanced close interaction with member states and the SCO Secretariat across diverse areas. He also reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to advancing its standing within the Organisation’s framework.

The SCO Secretary-General discussed the fundamental principles and priorities of the Organisation, encompassing political, economic, humanitarian, security, and international cooperation. Zhang Ming underscored Armenia’s vital role as a significant member of the SCO family and highlighted its substantial contribution to the Organisation's advancement as a dialogue partner. The Secretary-General expressed hope that Armenia would fully utilise its status and further enhance interaction within the association. Conversely, the SCO Secretariat plans to offer comprehensive support to Armenia’s initiatives across various cooperation spheres.
