On 6 May 2024, on the eve of the 79th anniversary of the Soviet Uniion’s victory in the Great Patriotic War, at the invitation of the Russian Embassy to China, a delegation of the SCO Secretariat led by SCO Deputy Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at a memorial to Soviet and Mongolian service personnel killed while liberating northeastern China.
Diplomats and military attaches from the embassies of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikiistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the Deputy Mayor of Zhangjiakou , high-ranking officials from the Foreign Ministry of China and Russian compatriots laid wreaths and fresh flowers at the obelisk adorned with a golden star and at a marble slab engraved with the names of fallen soldiers. They observed a moment of silence.
The monument bears the names of 66 Soviet and 59 Mongolian soldiers. The common grave contains the remains of 60 soldiers. The memorial covers an area of 396 square metres.
