Statement by the SCO Secretary-General in connection with the airstrike against the Iranian Consulate in Damascus

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation strongly condemns the airstrike carried out on 1 April 2024, targeting the Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Republic, and extends its heartfelt condolences to the Government of Iran.

We firmly believe that aggressive actions against the diplomatic and consular institutions of SCO member States abroad, which are guaranteed inviolability under the Vienna conventions, are categorically unacceptable.

The SCO unequivocally opposes any provocative actions that pose a threat to peace and security in the region.
