On 14 July 2022, the award ceremony of the 5th SCO Chinese Calligraphy Competition that lasted during 2021-2022e took place in Beijing. Amateur calligraphers from Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, and other countries presented their work. The event was organised by the China Bureau of Foreign Languages, the Renmin Huabao Publishing House, the SCO China Pilot Regional Economic Cooperation Zone and the Chinese Cultural Centre in Moscow with the support of the SCO Secretariat.
SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming addressed the participants. He noted that every calligraphic entry reflected the participants' interest, deep respect and sincere love for the age-old history and culture of China. The cultural diversity of the SCO family is an asset for the Organisation. The language of each of the SCO countries is rich in history, beauty and tradition. In this regard, Zhang Ming expressed hope that the event organisers would be able to gradually turn it into an SCO calligraphy contest.
The ceremony was attended by diplomats from the embassies of SCO countries, cultural figures and artists, correspondents of leading Chinese media and famous Chinese calligraphers.
