The presentation of the Trade and Economic Multifunctional Platform for the SCO Countries (TEMP) in the Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing, was held at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing on 9 April 2021.
At the event there were permanent representatives of the SCO member states at the SCO Secretariat, representatives of the SCO observer countries and dialogue partners, as well as the heads of trade missions and economic counsellors at the SCO Family countries' embassies.
During his opening remarks, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov spoke highly of the achievements of the Chongqing People's Government and the Liangjiang New Area, notably, in the development of interregional ties between the SCO countries thanks to the Forum of Heads of Regions of the SCO Member States held in May 2019.
The SCO Secretary-General pointed out that Chongqing had the capacity to become a bridge linking the SCO and ASEAN nations in trade, including e-commerce, transportation, logistics, IT and tourism.
He noted that the presentation could give momentum to deepening trade and economic collaboration in the SCO space and that TEMP would provide the basis for bilateral investments and innovations aimed at promoting high technology, e-commerce and mutually beneficial trade among the SCO Family countries.
Director of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee Duan Chenggang addressed those present, and Executive Secretary of the SCO Business Council Sergei Kanavsky sent a video message to the participants.
The agreement on the establishment of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area was signed in August 2019 between the Liangjiang Government, the Secretariat of the SCO Business Council and the Chongqing Heqing Industrial Group Co.
