On 22 January 2021, the SCO Secretariat hosted a meeting between SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to China Yury Senko.
The Secretary-General congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and wished him professional success.
Mr Norov noted Belarus' active participation as an SCO observer state and the close cooperation between its Embassy and the SCO Secretariat in Beijing.

The officials focused on cooperation in trade and the economy, transport and ICT. The Secretary-General stressed that it was important for Belarus to join the SCO Governments' agreement on creating favourable conditions for international road transport and reminded the ambassador about the opportunities envisaged by the SCO Secretariat Road Map, adopted in Bishkek in 2019, for the development of cooperation with observers and dialogue partners. Vladimir Norov urged Belarus to make its contribution and take an active part in events to mark the SCO's 20th anniversary.
The Ambassador of Belarus expressed his readiness to continue working on strengthening cooperation within the SCO and promoting the country's role in SCO activities in the areas of mutual interest. He also listed Belarus's proposals made at the previous meetings of the SCO Heads of State Council and Heads of Government Council as well as possible ways to implement them.
Mr Senko noted the SCO's role in ensuring regional security and stability as well as its special contribution to the development of multilateral cooperation and announced his readiness to take part in events organised by the SCO Secretariat.
He also praised the SCO Eight Wonders initiative and expressed his hope for expansion of the format involving observer states and dialogue partners. The ambassador of Belarus confirmed the continuity of the course of cooperation between the Embassy of Belarus and the SCO Secretariat started by his predecessors.
Previously Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Yury Senko chaired the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
