On 5 November, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov visited the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai University of Transportation) and had a meeting with Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of the University's Party Committee.
Mr Norov was briefed on the University's efforts at the moment to train skilled technical personnel and humanities specialists for China's public and private sectors. The University prioritises the expanded development of its ties with foreign partners as a factor of strengthening the University's innovative potential.
Mr Norov praised the University's academic and educational system and noted that it completely matched the SCO's economic and cultural-humanitarian agenda.
In this connection, he noted the promising nature of utilising the University's potentialities in joint work to establish and streamline educational projects and methods in the SCO region.
Meeting participants also discussed the prospects for inter-university cooperation in multilateral formats, including within the framework of the SCO University.
The Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai University of Transportation) was founded in 1896 and ranks among China's oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions. Its alumni include outstanding representatives of China's political, public and academic circles, including Jiang Zemin, former General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
