The ambassadors of the founding countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), who were standing at the organisation's inception and continue to show interest in the development of the world's largest transregional organisation, met at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing on 20 May 2018 to talk about the specifics of current international relations and the challenges facing the SCO.
This informal meeting with the patriarchs of SCO diplomacy was chaired by Secretary-General Rashid Alimov.
The diplomats exchanged stories about the inception of the organisation and shared their views on its prospective development and its place and role in the current system of international relations.
The meeting participants included Assistant Foreign Minister of China Le Yucheng, the first head of the SCO Secretariat and former Deputy Foreign Minister of China Zhang Deguang, ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary Andrei Denisov (Russia), Shakhrat Nuryshev (Kazakhstan) and Azamat Usenov (Kyrgyzstan), as well as former heads of China's diplomatic missions in the SCO member states.
SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov expressed deep gratitude to the important guests for their definitive proposals and valuable views on the future development of the organisation.
The guests were taken on a tour of the SCO Secretariat.
Such meetings with the SCO friends are traditionally held by the SCO Secretary-General ahead of SCO summits and take place in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
