SCO Secretariat holds presentation of commemorative postage envelopes to mark SCO Day and the SCO family’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic

On 15 June 2020, the SCO Secretariat held a grand presentation of commemorative postage envelopes dedicated to Strengthening the Shanghai spirit and Unity in Countering the Pandemic, which carry signatures of 17 ambassadors of the SCO family of countries.

The ceremony was attended by SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov and Deputy Secretary-General of China's SCO Committee on Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation Cui Li.

Vladimir Norov noted that 15 June is SCO Day and that the SCO will turn 19 this year. This is why the release of commemorative envelopes on the Committee's initiative is a remarkable event in the SCO's life, which at the same time reflects the determination of the SCO countries in countering the pandemic. He also expressed confidence that the international community would defeat the pandemic through joint efforts and restore its economic and social development.

In his remarks about the commemorative envelope the SCO Secretary-General pointed out that thanks to the Chinese government's effective measures as well as staunchness and high consciousness of the Chinese people, the struggle against the coronavirus in China was a success. "The epidemic has no borders. The joint struggle against it by all the SCO member states testifies to mutual support and solidarity in overcoming this emergency," underscored the Secretary-General.

Vladimir Norov highly appreciated the Committee's many-year long contribution to the strengthening of public diplomacy and cooperation in the humanitarian field within the SCO framework and expressed his readiness to assist all the Committee's endeavours intended for the development of the SCO.

Deputy Secretary-General of China's SCO Committee on Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation Cui Li congratulated Vladimir Norov on the occasion of SCO Day and presented him with a commemorative envelope issued by the Committee jointly with the All-China Philatelic Federation. She stressed that in their global fight against the coronavirus the "SCO family" hoisted the banner high of the "Shanghai spirit" and united everyone in the joint activity.

"The Committee on Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation is prepared to continue its fruitful cooperation with the SCO Secretariat in a variety of spheres," noted Cui Li.

After the ceremony the SCO Secretary-General gave an interview to the Xinhua agency and Chinese Central Television.
