On 11 July 2019, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov met with Jose Angelo Estrella-Faria, Senior Legal Officer at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Secretariat in Vienna.
The Secretary-General informed Mr Estrella-Faria of key trends in multilateral trade and economic cooperation within the SCO, in particular in promoting e-trade, upgrading transport networks and developing the transit potential of the SCO member states.
Jose Angelo Estrella-Faria told Vladimir Norov about UNCITRAL's activities. UNCITRAL was established by the UN General Assembly in 1966 to promote the harmonisation and unification of international trade law. Mr Estrella-Faria expressed interest in having SCO representatives participate in UNCITRAL events to exchange experience in coordinating international trade and economic agreements.
The parties also exchanged opinions on establishing cooperation between the SCO and UNCITRAL in promoting e-trade and upgrading transport infrastructure, including the adoption of a joint cooperation programme between the two organisations.
