SCO Secretary-General meets with President of Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy

On 11 July 2019, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov met with President of the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy Werner Fasslabend in Vienna.

The Secretary-General told Mr Fasslabend about the activities of the SCO, its role in providing for regional security and sustainable development, and the main results of the meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council that took place on 13-14 June in Bishkek.

Mr Norov noted the importance of establishing academic exchanges between the SCO and the EU's research institutes and think tanks through holding roundtable discussions and joint side events.

Mr Fasslabend emphasised the increasing role of the SCO in the global economy and noted the need to forge cooperation between the SCO and EU countries in trade, the economy and transport.

Mr Norov and Mr Fasslabend exchanged opinions on the organisation of a joint international conference with the participation of analytical centres from the SCO, OSCE and EU in order to discuss issues related to countering terrorism, separatism and extremism, as well as illegal drug trafficking and other threats to security and stability in Central Asia and the entire Eurasian space.

The meeting took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.
