On 30 November 2018, the China-SCO Centre for Youth Exchanges at Kunming University's was the venue of a meeting between national coordinators of SCO member states and representatives of SCO countries' young people. The event involved Yunnan Province Vice Governor Ms Li Jiang, Kunming City Hall senior officials, Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan and Nepal to China, Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre, representatives of diplomatic missions of Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan to the People's Republic of China and over 1,000 professors and students from Kunming University.
Kunming University Rector Ms Li Sumei addressed the event's opening ceremony. Yunnan Province Vice Governor Ms Li Jiang and SCO Deputy Secretary- General Xie Xiaoyun also greeted the participants.
Eight young representatives of the SCO member states read out a letter compiled by the SCO younger generation to the national coordinators, noting their commitment to the SCO Charter goals and principles and the values of the Shanghai Spirit. They also voiced their determination to combat terrorism, extremism and separatism and expressed confidence in building a world based on mutual trust and respect. The young people also pointed out their desire to engage in creative and constructive work, to translate lofty ideals into life, to hold the SCO banner high and to make a feasible contribution to the development of their own countries and the Organisation.
After receiving the young people's letter, the national coordinators praised the younger generation's desire to dedicate itself to implementing the principles of the Shanghai Spirit and urged the young people to take an active part in the SCO's constructive activities and join the cause of strengthening friendship and building upon inter-civilisational dialogue between members of the Organisation's younger generation.
A soiree was organised in honour of the distinguished guests, with Kunming University lecturers and students performing on stage. The students also displayed their unique culinary and floral creations.
