On 1 December 2018, Kunming in the Yunnan Province of the People's Republic of China was the venue of a regular visiting session of the SCO Ambassadors Club. On 2 December, Kunming will become the centre of the Organisation's sports life and will receive 20,000 guests and athletes from 52 countries, due to take part in the SCO Marathon.
The visiting session's participants had a working meeting with senior officials of the Yunnan Province and Kunming city; and national coordinators of SCO member states also took part in it.
During a conversation with Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the Yunnan Province Chen Hao, they discussed various cooperation aspects with the Yunnan Province, including in the context of organising and holding joint events.
SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov praised the results of the cooperation between the SCO Secretariat and the leaders of the Yunnan Province and said substantial joint work had been conducted in the past two years. International observers and sports experts highly assessed this work and believe that the SCO Marathon has become unique in terms of numerous parameters.
"The SCO Secretariat's effective coordination allowed us to score impressive successes and to implement an ambitious project that contributes to strengthening friendship and cooperation," Chen Hao said.
During their conversation, the sides also touched upon cooperation with the Yunnan Province in the field of youth policy and cultural and humanitarian ties.
The SCO Ambassadors Club is a regular format of meetings between SCO member states' ambassadors, accredited in the People's Republic of China, for discussing practical matters of expanded diverse intra-SCO cooperation. Held since 2014, the Club's visiting sessions aim to search for new opportunities for expanded cooperation, including that between SCO countries' administrative and territorial units and the business community.
