On 2 June 2018, 17 master's degree students, three undergraduates and two PhD students from 12 countries of the "SCO family" attended the First Youth Conference "SCO Model-2018" held at the SCO Headquarters in Beijing. Activists of the SCO Youth League tried to model a SCO summit.
The discussion of the final document lasted for five hours and ended in a consensus. During the "heated debates," the participants exchanged views on a broad range of international and regional economic development issues as well as on prospects and measures for intensifying youth policy cooperation in the SCO space to further strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between SCO member states.
In his remarks at the opening ceremony, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov stressed that "the SCO is a young organisation. One in every five citizens in the SCO space is a young person aged from 15 to 24 years. This is a powerful force looking to the future. In the SCO young generation, we see not only talented and motivated young men and women but also the most active part of the ‘SCO family,' which is capable of taking on the current challenges as well as those to come."
Following the discussion, the Joint Statement by the Participants in the Youth Conference "SCO Model-2018" was approved.
The opening ceremony was also attended by SCO Deputy Secretary-General Aziz Nosirov.
