The meeting with Singaporean Ambassador to China

On 1 March 2018, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov had a meeting with Stanley Loh, Singapore's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the People's Republic of China, at the SCO Secretariat.

The officials discussed practical interaction between ASEAN and the SCO within the framework of Singapore's chairmanship of ASEAN.

Rashid Alimov told Mr Loh about the preparations for the main event on the SCO agenda, a meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council, which will be held in Qingdao in June 2018. Mr Alimov said that the presence of the ASEAN Secretary-General at SCO summits helped to boost ties between these largest universal organisations in Asia.

Mr Stanley Loh spoke about the priorities of Singapore's ASEAN chairmanship and the importance of the promotion of multilateral cooperation in Asia Pacific.

"While attaining practical results in their regions of responsibility, ASEAN and the SCO play a key role in creating the architecture of indivisible security and equitable cooperation in the most rapidly developing part of the world. They also have a unique opportunity to strengthen their mutually beneficial cooperation in the interests of progress and prosperity in the region," the SCO Secretary-General said.

The Singaporean ambassador presented a book titled Diplomacy: A Singapore Experience, by Singaporean politician and diplomat S.Jayakumar, to the SCO library.

The SCO Secretary-General said that the SCO Secretariat was ready to work together with Singapore towards developing and strengthening ties between the SCO and ASEAN.

The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
