China chaired a meeting of the SCO Council of National Coordinators, which was held at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing on 30 January to 2 February 2018.
The meeting participants discussed preparations for the upcoming meetings of the main SCO bodies, such as the SCO Heads of State Council, the SCO National Security Council Secretaries and the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, which will meet in China, as well as an SCO Heads of Government Council meeting, which will convene in Tajikistan in autumn.
The national coordinators have approved a programme of cooperation between the SCO states' foreign ministries for 2018 and exchanged views on the organisation's international ties. In particular, they have coordinated a draft Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the SCO Secretariat and UNESCO, as well as discussed the legal framework for the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group and the organisation of joint events with UNESCO, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The meeting participants also coordinated the organisation's current activities and included the relevant agreements in the meeting's final protocol.
The SCO Council of National Coordinators coordinates SCO activities and interaction between the concerned ministries and agencies of the SCO member states.
The People's Republic of China holds the rotating SCO chairmanship from 2017 to 2018.
