In his speech to all the guests and friends of the SCO, the Secretary-General thanked everyone for support and cooperation in 2017, which became a new milestone for the organisation. Mr Alimov noted that "the SCO Astana Summit was a great success: India and Pakistan have become full-fledged members of the organisation" and stressed that "the interests of the SCO family nations and mutual responsibility for our shared destiny are at the root of the SCO development strategy. Cooperation, joint development and joint prosperity are our common goals."
The SCO Secretary-General noted that "guided by the 2025 development strategy, the organisation will move forward confidently with its new ideas, innovative approaches and assured leadership position. In the new year, the SCO will continue to solve important issues that are of concern to the people in such areas as security, the economy and the development of cultural dialogue."
Rashid Alimov wished all those present every success, health, happiness, well-being, harmony, peace and prosperity in the New Year.
The guests enjoyed the festive programme presented by the famous Vostok band.
