On 27-29 November 2017, Moscow hosted a regular meeting of the SCO Council of National Coordinators chaired by China.
Those at the meeting focused on completing the preparations for the 16th meeting of the SCO Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) Council (HGC), which is scheduled to take place in Sochi on 30 November-1 December 2017.
The agenda for the meeting of the SCO Council of National Coordinators included over 20 topics relating to the current and future SCO activities, as well as ways to improve trade and economic cooperation between member states.
The national coordinators have formulated issues which will be included on the agenda for the HGC meeting, finalised the draft Joint Communique, reviewed the SCO Secretariat's Report on the Implementation of the Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation Between SCO Member States for 2016 and 2017 and discussed the draft SCO Plan of Major Events and the draft Programme of Cooperation Between Foreign Ministries of the SCO Member States for 2018, as well as further promotion of security cooperation.
The participants analysed the results of the meeting of the Council of External Trade and Economy Ministers of the SCO Member States that was held in Moscow on 15 November this year, as well as those of the meetings of other bodies responsible for this area of the organisation's activities, which include further boosting mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation and forging closer ties between business circles primarily by making the best use of the opportunities offered by the SCO Business Council and the SCO Interbank Consortium.
In addition to this, the national coordinators thoroughly analysed the results of a number of economic, cultural and humanitarian initiatives, the status of interaction between the SCO and the UN, as well as some other matters on the SCO's current agenda.
The SCO Council of National Coordinators agrees upon the SCO activities and cooperation between relevant ministries and agencies of the SCO member states.
The People's Republic of China holds the presidency of the SCO in 2017 and 2018.
