The SCO Information Stand at the UNESCAP headquarters in Bangkok

On 21 November 2017, an Information Stand of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation opened at the United Nations Office in Bangkok for participants and guests of the Second UN Ministerial Conference on Regional Economic Cooperation and Integration in Asia and the Pacific.

The SCO Information Stand provides the key information on the state of trade and economic cooperation with an emphasis on the economic performance of the SCO member states. Brochures, diagrams, drawings and figures offer details on how the transport system in the SCO functions and on the use of their transit and communications infrastructure. Visitors also have the opportunity to learn about the operation of the SCO economic mechanisms.

A significant part of the information is dedicated to the Agreement signed in 2014 in Dushanbe between the governments of the SCO member states on the facilitation of international road transport, which has created a new and unique multilateral authorisation system for the transit of goods from the Pacific to the Baltic Sea using end-to-end routes.

On 23 November 2017, the UN Office in Bangkok will host the first joint high-level side event co-organised by the SCO and ESCAP, Towards Regional Transport Connectivity, attended by participants from more than 50 countries in Asia and the Pacific.

The SCO Information Stand at the UNESCAP headquarters in Bangkok will be open until November 24, 2017.

The Second Ministerial Conference on Regional Economic Cooperation and Integration in Asia and the Pacific is held from 21 to 24 November 2017 at the United Nations ESCAP headquarters in Bangkok. Its participants are considering economic cooperation in the vast region of ESCAP, with an emphasis on supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They also discuss removing obstacles to wider market integration as well as strengthening regional financial cooperation.

At the end of the Conference, a Ministerial Declaration on Regional Economic Cooperation and Integration in the Asia-Pacific Region is to be adopted.
