SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov and OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger met in Samarkand on 10 November 2017 on the sidelines of the international conference titled Central Asia: Shared Past and Common Future, Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Mutual Prosperity.
Mr Greminger confirmed the OSCE's intention to strengthen cooperation with the SCO in light of the common challenges and threats facing Eurasia. He believes the two organisations can pool their efforts in the fight against international terrorism, extremism, illegal drug trafficking and cross-border crime.
Mr Alimov said that "working under the Astana Declaration, the SCO member states will continue to strengthen cooperation with international organisations and associations in keeping with the documents signed while prioritising the UN and its specialised bodies."
The SCO Secretary-General pointed out the contribution of the SCO delegations at OSCE events and expressed the intention to continue this practice.
The SCO and the OSCE leaders exchanged opinions on a broad range of issues of mutual interest and discussed the possibility of promoting cooperation between their organisations.
The OSCE Secretary General invited Rashid Alimov to attend the 24th OSCE Ministerial Council on 7-8 December 2017.
