On 9 November, 2017, SCO Secretary-General had meeting with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca on the sidelines of the international conference, Central Asia: One Past and a Common Future, Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Mutual Prosperity.
Mr Jenca praised the dynamic development of cooperation between the organisations and emphasised that "the cooperation between the UN and SCO is now in a brand new, promising state." One of the UN tasks, including those in the context of its reform, is the deepening and expansion of cooperation with regional organisations, he said. "SCO is one of the UN's priority partners, the main UN partner in countering modern challenges and threats in the region, and also its main partner in sustainable social and economic development," UN Assistant Secretary-General said.
The SCO Secretary-General thanked Mr Jenca for the high assessment of the organisation's activities, and, referring to the Astana declaration, emphasised that "the interaction with the UN is SCO's priority in addressing the issues of combating international terrorism, extremism and separatism, as well as the topics of regional economic development and cooperation in cultural and the humanitarian spheres."
Rashid Alimov and Miroslav Jenca discussed certain joint projects of SCO with the UN and its specialised institutions, as well as the prospects of deepening the interaction between global and regional organisations, in a warm and friendly atmosphere. An agreement was reached to maintain working relations at every level.
