On November 8, 2017, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov had a meeting with Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Mr. Abdusalomov praised the SCO's election monitoring activities. "In the past few years, it was hard to imagine elections and referendums without SCO missions whose assessments are always objective, unbiased and comprehensive. It is necessary to expand the SCO's potential in this area, to streamline the activity of missions whose voice is very important for the voters in the SCO region," he said. Mr. Abdusalomov praised the organisation of the SCO's mission to monitor elections in the Kyrgyz Republic in October 2017 and also discussed planned reforms of Uzbekistan's election system. "The creation of a mechanism of regular meetings between chairpersons of central election commissions of SCO member-states, exchanging experience on the organisation of elections, the introduction of cutting-edge technology in election processes, and evaluating the organisation of elections in member-states are in high demand, now that India as well as Pakistan have joined our Organisation," Mr. Abdusalomov noted.
Mr. Alimov thanked Mr. Abdusalomov for his contribution to the work of the SCO election monitoring missions and also for his constructive proposals to improve their performance.
