Results of the world specialized exhibition, EXPO 2017 in Astana, were summarised on 20 October 2017 at the headquarters of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO); a presentation of the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 (EXPO 2019) in Beijing was held there as well.
In his speech SCO Secretary General Rashid Alimov noted that SCO's pavilion was very popular among visitors of the Future Energy international exhibition. It Some 172,679 people visited it, i.e. every 20th guest of EXPO 2017. Mr Alimov was also happy to highlight that following the exhibition a symbolic SCO key, a Shanghai Spirit drum and also 17 archive photographs depicting the organisation's history were gifted to the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The SCO secretary general reminded the audience that SCO Day was the largest cultural and sporting event over the entire period of work of the EXPO 2017. According to him, the Astana International Athletics Marathon of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) also drew major interest. The event attracted around 6,000 running lovers from 32 countries, all of who participated in the event.
"Today Astana hands over the baton to Beijing, which will host the International Horticultural Exhibition in 2019. SCO member states will take part in it and will present their best horticultural samples in a specialised pavilion of the organisation," Rashid Alimov said.
Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of Beijing Expo 2019 Xia Zhanyi gave the participants of the event a presentation on the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019, which will be take place in the Yanqing District, of Beijing April-October 2019.
The guests familiarised themselves with video stories on the work of the SCO's pavilion at the EXPO 2017 in Astana, Astana International Athletics Marathon of the SCO and CICA, and the 2019 Horticultural Expo in Beijing.
The event was followed by a brilliant concert of classical music performed by the Golden Sail Youth Orchestra.
Ambassadors and diplomats of the embassies of member states, SCO observers and dialog partners accredited in Beijing, cultural and human rights activists of China, members of the Executive Committee and Coordination Bureau of the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 attended the event.
From 10 June to 10 September 2017 at the invitation of Kazakhstan's Government, the SCO took part in the EXPO 2017, the opening ceremony of which was timed to coincide with the SCO summit in Astana.
The Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition 2019, approved by the International Association of Horticultural Producers and the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), is an A1 category horticultural exhibition and will be arranged in Beijing with the support of the Chinese government.
This has been the largest professional top-level exhibition since the International Horticultural Exhibition in Kunming and EXPO 2010 that took place in Shanghai.
