SCO summit: international media centre opens in Astana

The Independence Palace

A SCO media centre began its work in the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan ahead of the 8-9 June 2017 SCO Heads of State Council meeting in Astana.

Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry Committee for International Information in charge of the International Media Centre has set up excellent working conditions for journalists.

Venue

The International Media Centre is located in the Independence Palace at 52 Tauelsizdik Avenue, Astana. The SCO summit will actually take place in the same complex. The entire second floor is allocated to the media centre. It will open its doors at 8 am on 9 June.

Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry Committee for International Information will engage 10 staff and 10 volunteers to provide support for the journalists during the summit. The equipment is designed for 600 workplaces.

Accreditation

The media accreditation was launched by the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan on 10 May 2017. The process is simple and comprises three steps.: a completed form (1), a 3x4 cm photograph (2) and a scan of the passport (3) should be emailed to press2017sco@mfa.kz and press2017sco@gmail.com. Visa support is provided to citizens of the countries that require a visa. It takes up to 5 working days to get a visa at Kazakhstan's diplomatic offices abroad.

Accreditation badges will be handed out on 8 June 2017 from 9.30 am to 6 pm in the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan at 31 Kunaev Street.

Services

Each media representative will have free access to Wi-Fi high-speed internet on the premises of the media centre. In addition, high-quality video and photo files of the SCO Summit will be provided, as well as free food for journalists: during the day they will be offered sandwiches, tea, coffee and drinks. Lunch will be served from 12 pm to 3 pm.

Security

Necessary security measure will be taken to ensure a problem-free operation of the International Media Centre and to guarantee the safety of media representatives' equipment. To do that, a special checkpoint has been set up for journalists at the entrance to the media centre. Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry employees and volunteers will be at the checkpoint to render help and assistance if necessary.
