SCO experts coordinate positions before 14th Culture Ministers Meeting

On 1 June 2017, Kazakhstan chaired a meeting of the SCO Member States' Expert Working Group on Cultural Interaction at the Republic of Kazakhstan National Museum.

Meeting participants exchanged opinions on implementing the 16 August 2007 Agreement between the Governments of the SCO Member States on Cooperation in Culture as part of preparations for a meeting of SCO member states' ministers of culture, scheduled for 2 June 2017 in Astana. The parties also exchanged information about the current status of SCO cultural ties and the prospects for development.

The agenda was discussed in great detail, final documents were drafted, and some issues linked with holding the 14th Culture Ministers Meeting were also discussed.

Summing up the results of the meeting, Almat Suyunov, director of the Department of Education, Research and International Relations at Kazakhstan's Ministry of Culture and Sport, noted that the "experts' meeting has become a platform for discussing the issues linked with the implementation of agreements reached during previous ministerial meetings." "This constructive dialogue between representatives of the SCO's ministries of culture will create a solid foundation for furthering cultural and humanitarian cooperation," he said.

The SCO Member States' Expert Working Group on Cultural Interaction was established in 2005 to coordinate cultural cooperation and maintain permanent contact between the concerned departments of the SCO member states in between ministerial meetings.
