On 12-13 April 2017, a Meeting of Senior Officials of Counternarcotics Agencies of the SCO Member States took place in Astana, chaired by Kazakhstan.
The parties discussed preparations for the seventh Meeting of the Senior Officials of Competent Authorities for Combatting Illicit Drug Trafficking of the SCO Member States in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.
The meeting agenda included the current issues on the SCO's planned 2017 anti-drug track. The participants summed up the results of the four expert working groups' intra-CIS anti-drug efforts.
The Meeting of Senior Officials of Counternarcotics Agencies of the SCO Member States was established under the 19 May 2009 decision of the Meeting of Senior Officials of Competent Authorities for Combatting Illegal Drug Trafficking. The participants of the Meeting of Senior Officials of Counternarcotics Agencies are involved in drafting interstate programmes and plans to combat the illegal trafficking of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, and in preparing and holding academic-practical conferences, seminars, sessions and working meetings and facilitating experience exchanges in this area.
