SCO Secretariat and SCO Business Council support broader cooperation

On 12 April 2017, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Rashid Alimov met in Beijing with Raimbek Batalov, President of the SCO Business Council National Branch of Kazakhstan, Board Chairman of the SCO Business Council, and Chairman of the Kazakhstan Entrepreneurs' Forum Board.

In the course of the conversations, opinions were exchanged on the role and activity of the SCO Business Council as one of the Organisation's active public venues. Its significance was noted in contributing to the expansion of economic cooperation, implementing multilateral projects and establishing closer ties between the business and financial circles of the SCO member states.

In the context of the upcoming SCO Summit in Astana and the expansion of the Organisation, the SCO Secretary-General stressed the importance of realising the task set forth before the business community of taking economic cooperation to a higher level.

Mr Batalov praised the work of the SCO Secretariat, stressing the importance of active interaction with the SCO Business Council on a wide range of issues, and expressed the hope for the further broadening of cooperation during his presidency of the SCO Business Council.

The SCO Business Council is a non-governmental body which brings together members of the business and financial communities of the SCO member states. The Business Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation was founded on 14 June 2006 in Shanghai, People's Republic of China, with the aim of boosting economic cooperation in the framework of the Organisation and involving financial institutions in the practical work on the SCO's multilateral projects.

From 1 January to 31 December 2017, The SCO Business Council Board is chaired by the BC National Board of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Kazakhstan Entrepreneurs' Forum, an association of legal entities, is one of the largest and most active public associations in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Forum assists in the activities and development of all forms of private economic initiative and entrepreneurship.
