The 28th meeting of the SCO Commission of Senior Officials in Charge of Trade and Economic Cooperation
Prospects for expanding trade and economic cooperation discussed at SCO headquarters

On 11-12 April 2017, the 28th meeting of the SCO Commission of Senior Officials in Charge of Trade and Economic Cooperation chaired by Russia was held at the SCO headquarters in Beijing.

The Commission reviewed the progress in implementing the main international legal documents of the SCO in trade and the economy: the respective section of the SCO Development Strategy towards 2025, the Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation, and the List of Activities on Further Development of Joint Projects for 2017-2021.

The meeting participants analysed the performance of SCO special working groups on interaction in particular areas and discussed the parties' proposals on further expansion of forms and mechanisms of trade and economic cooperation within the Organisation.

The Commission also focused on preparations for the next meeting of the Council of External Trade and Economy Ministers of the SCO Member States, to be held in Russia in the second half of 2017.

The Commission of Senior Officials in Charge of Trade and Economic Cooperation operates under the Council of External Trade and Economy Ministers of the SCO Member States, in order to implement the clauses of the Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation of the SCO member states.

The Commission of Senior Officials has special working groups on developing transit potential, simplifying trade, and assisting in investment, e-trade, modern information and telecommunication technologies, and customs cooperation.
