The Secretary-General's New Year message for visitors to the SCO Secretariat website.
Dear friends of the SCO and visitors to the Secretariat's website!
The year 2016 is now behind us. It was a year in which the SCO marked its 15th anniversary.
More than 800 events and meetings of various kinds were held in 2016. The Organisation provided extensive coverage of all of them on its official website.
The anniversary SCO Summit in Tashkent (23-24 June, 2016) was the highlight of the year and put the Organisation on a new development trajectory. The Tashkent Summit achieved impressive results and was noteworthy in many other ways. All in all, it was a historic event. It confirmed the SCO's commitment to be consistent and resolute in implementing the SCO Development Strategy towards 2025.
The SCO Heads of Government Council Meeting in Bishkek (2-3 November 2016) adopted important decisions aimed at further improving the standard of living and social welfare, ensuring steady economic development, and promoting cultural and humanitarian cooperation across the vast SCO space.
The year culminated in the SCO's first international marathon to mark the 15th anniversary of the Organisation. The SCO marathon was a remarkable, unforgettable and spectacular sports festival highlighting the core principles of the Organisation, such as peace and friendship among nations, the coming together and mutual enrichment of cultures and civilisations, as well as the unity and spiritual bond of the SCO family.
More than 320 press releases and messages were published on the SCO website in 2016 alongside photos providing a glimpse into our Organisation.
In 2017, we will continue our efforts to make our website more interesting for those wishing to discover (and rediscover) the fascinating and diverse world of the SCO.
On behalf of all my colleagues from the SCO Secretariat, I wish all visitors to the SCO website a happy New Year 2017, peace, happiness and prosperity for you, your family and friends.
