On 6 February 2024, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming met with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku. Zhang Ming is heading the SCO Monitoring Mission for the early presidential elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The parties discussed current SCO issues, prospects for further cooperation within the SCO, and possible joint projects.
Zhang Ming praised Azerbaijan’s constructive approach to participating in SCO activities and confirmed that the SCO Secretariat would continue its proactive efforts to coordinate and promote the organisation’s partnership with Azerbaijan, aiming to increase its positive impact.
Jeyhun Bayramov welcomed the arrival of the SCO Monitoring Mission led by Secretary-General Zhang Ming in Azerbaijan. He expressed gratitude to the SCO, an influential international organisation, for sending monitors to the early presidential elections in his country. He also noted that this step was regarded as a sign of support for the leadership of Azerbaijan and stressed that strengthening ties with the SCO was one of Baku’s foreign policy priorities. The Republic of Azerbaijan intends to consistently expand and intensify its involvement in cooperation with the SCO across various areas.
The parties agreed to maintain close contacts.
