On 23-26 November, the Year of Tourism 2023 SCO forum will be held in one of the main tourist centres of China: the historic city of Urumqi in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China.
The Year of Tourism 2023 forum will be the first thematic forum held by the SCO Secretariat and the People’s Congress of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) in China as part of the SCO year of tourism that was announced by the heads of state at a meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in order to support the tourism industry and increase the appeal of cities and regions in the SCO space as tourism destinations.
The exhibition centre will bring together heads of tourism administrations, representatives of international organisations, officials and business leaders, experts in the field of tourism and diplomats from the countries of the SCO family to discuss joint initiatives to support the tourism industry. Four thematic sections are planned at the forum, on the following topics: Tourism Potential of the SCO Space, Tourism Potential of the XUAR, Promoting Sustainable Tourism, and Developing Tourism to Reduce Poverty.
The main goal of the forum is to help develop the SCO tourism sector, develop projects between groups of member states, and form a common tourism space.
On 25 November, the forum guests will embark on an unforgettable trip around the natural and cultural attractions of the XUAR.
