On 4-6 November 2023, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming took part in the 6th China International Import Expo(CIIE) and the Hongqiao International Economic and Trade Forum in Shanghai.
Zhang Ming spoke at the sub-forum on Regional International Organisations Demonstration Zones: New Platform and Practice for BRI Cooperation and the 16th Belt and Road Eco-Agriculture and Food Safety Forum. In his remarks, Zhang Ming analysed the current state of cooperation between the SCO member states in related fields and the practical results. The member states devote great attention to regional trade and economic cooperation, focusing on efforts to ensure food security and other cooperation spheres, he noted. The SCO states also draft and actively implement multilateral documents and take comprehensive action to strengthen and unlock their cooperation potential, consistently injecting the “power of the SCO” in regional and global integration processes.

The SCO Secretary-General also toured the exhibition pavilions of Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Mongolia, and other SCO countries. He exchanged opinions with representatives of state agencies and enterprises on efforts to promote national products and to develop intra-SCO trade cooperation.
 
The sub-forums of the 6th CIIE involve over 1,000 delegates from 154 countries, as well as various regions and international organisations.

In an interview with China Central Television (CCTV), Kazinform International News Agency and other media outlets, Zhang Ming discussed topical issues of intra-SCO trade and economic, tourism and other cooperation.
 
The CIIE officially opened on 5 November. A message of greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping was read, and Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Qiang delivered a policy speech. Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov, Prime Minister of Cuba Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic, First Vice President of Iran Mohammad Mokhber, Deputy President of South Africa Paul Mashatile, UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan and other high-ranking guests also greeted the participants.
