On 27 September 2022, the 22nd meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Economic and Trade Activity was held in Bishkek in a hybrid format under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz side.
The meeting was attended by the heads of the authorised economic and trade ministries and agencies of the SCO member states, the SCO Secretariat and the SCO Business Council Secretariat.
Heads of the delegations exchanged views on the prospects and opportunities for further increasing trade and economic cooperation among the SCO member states, as well as reviewed the implementation of the Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation of the SCO member states (2 November 2019, Tashkent).
The ministers approved a number of documents on the development of e-commerce in the SCO space for subsequent approval during the meeting of the Heads of Government Council (prime ministers) of the SCO member states (26 October 2023, Bishkek) and adopted a Statement on the Prospects for and Measures to Deepen Cooperation among the SCO Member States.
SCO Deputy Secretary-General Sohail Khan participated in the meeting and delivered a speech. He stressed that in view of the unpredictable economic situation in the world, geopolitical contradictions and unilateral sanctions, the task of a joint response from the SCO member states to global challenges, progressive increases in cooperation, consistent implementation of mutual understandings and agreements reached by the heads of the SCO member states in the interests of ensuring economic sustainability in the organisation's area of responsibility is of particular importance.
