On 20 September 2023, an ad hoc meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers Council under the presidency of the Kazakhstani party will take place on the sidelines of the 78th session of the of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Meeting attendees will include the heads of SCO foreign ministries, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming and Deputy Director of SCO RATS Executive Committee Artur Golovanov. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Hossein Amir Abdollahian will represent his country as a full member for the first time.
The meeting’s agenda includes modernising and reforming the SCO, boosting the modalities of cooperation with international organisations, in particular, with the UN, as well as promoting interaction in politics, security, the economy and in the cultural and humanitarian areas.
The foreign ministers convened for an ad hoc meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session on 20 September 2017, under the presidency of the Chinese party.
The previous regular meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers Council took place on 4-5 May 2023, in the Republic of India. The next regular meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers Council will take place in the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2024.
