On 6 September, 2023, the 6th Great Silk Road International Cultural Expo opened with a ceremony in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, China.
At the invitation of the organisers, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nuran Niyazaliev addressed the participants. Speaking of the SCO’s contribution to strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties, he specifically focused on the efforts to study and preserve the cultural and natural heritage of the SCO countries, including the locations along the historic Great Silk Road. He also informed the audience that Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan, was proclaimed as the cultural and tourist capital of the SCO for 2023-2024.
The event is organised by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the People's Government of Gansu Province, China’s National Radio and Television Administration, and China’s Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
