On 14 June 2023, an international round table entitled The Samarkand Process: Prospects for Modernising SCO Activities was held via videoconference.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the International Institute for Central Asian Studies to implement the September 2022 Samarkand decision by the SCO Heads of State Council on improving the Organisation’s activities. Representatives of research and analytical institutions of the member states took part in the discussion.
SCO Deputy Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev delivered a welcome address to the forum, underscoring the need to boost the competitiveness and image of the Organisation and increase its appeal to the people of the SCO member states and other countries. The conference included two thematic sessions focused on adapting the SCO to new geopolitical realities, as well as on its institutional and legal modernisation.
