A regular meeting of the SCO Business Council Board was held on 2 May via videoconference. It was attended by the Chairs of the SCO Business Councils from the SCO member states. Sergei Kanavsky, Executive Secretary of the SCO Business Council, gave a report on SCO business activities since the last meeting.
The event was chaired by the national SCO Business Council from the Republic of India.
Sohail Khan, SCO Deputy Secretary General welcomed the meeting participants on behalf of the SCO Secretariat.        
During the discussion, the members of the SCO Business Council Board spoke in favour of the need to focus on the practical issues of cooperation, joint identification and removal of obstacles hindering regional trade and investment, the creation of a conducive environment for the development of small and medium businesses, and women and youth entrepreneurship. The participants put forward concrete proposals for establishing branch committees under the auspices of the Business Council which would specialise in priority sectors of the economy, setting up a constantly operating congress and exhibition platform, a single training centre, a joint laboratory for the certification of agricultural products, and a number of other new initiatives.
At the end of the official session of the meeting, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, with assistance from the SCO Business Council Secretariat, held an interactive business forum to present pilot and potential investment projects from enterprises in the SCO member states.
 
The SCO Business Council was established in 2006 as a non-governmental organisation that brings together the most authoritative representatives of the business community of the SCO member states. Its main goals are to expand economic cooperation, establish direct links and dialogue among the business and financial communities of the SCO member states, and engage them in comprehensive business cooperation in the trade, economic and investment fields. The permanent Secretariat of the SCO Business Council is located in Moscow.
