On 9 December 2022, the ninth Meeting of SCO Ministers of Justice was held online under the chairmanship of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Taking part in the meeting were Minister of Law and Justice of the Republic of India Kiren Rijiju, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alma Mukanova, Minister of Justice of the People's Republic of China Tang Yijun, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic Baktiyar Orozov, Minister of Law and Justice of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, State Secretary-Deputy Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation Andrei Loginov, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan Muzaffar Ashuriyon, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akbar Tashkulov and SCO Deputy Secretary-General Erik Ashimov.
The meeting was chaired by Minister of Law and Justice of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar.
During the meeting, the parties considered the latest developments in the activities of the SCO ministries of justice, discussed their role in the digitalisation of areas within their competence, and expressed readiness to further improve interaction between the SCO ministries of justice.
The meeting participants also touched upon the provision of legal services to individuals and/or legal entities, and stressed that the development of cybertechnologies in the provision of services remained one of the main tasks of the SCO Ministries of (Law and) Justice.
It was agreed to continue work on the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation between the SCO Ministries of (Law and) Justice signed in Dushanbe on 18 August 2015, organising officials’ mutual visits, holding regional SCO conferences, bilateral symposiums, seminars, workshops and joint courses on topical legal issues.
A Joint Statement was signed following the Meeting.
The next anniversary 10th Meeting of SCO Ministers of Justice will be held in China in 2023.
