On 11 November, 2022, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Secretary-General Zhang Ming, attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, met with ASEAN Secretary-General Lim Jock Hoi as well as his deputy Michael Tene.
Lim Jock Hoi expressed his gratitude to Zhang Ming for agreeing to attend the forum of ASEAN member states’ top leaders.
During the meeting the parties confirmed their readiness to enhance cooperation and build up joint efforts in the implementation of the 2005 Memorandum of Understanding between the SCO and ASEAN secretariats. The parties stressed the importance of deepening interaction between the two organisations in the context of responding to current geopolitical threats and challenges.
Both sides underlined the expediency of developing new forms of interaction, further intensifying ties between the secretariats as well as enhancing coordination and exchanges between the SCO and ASEAN member states in the political, economic and humanitarian fields in order to maintain regional security and stability.
