On 15 September 2022, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Zhang Ming had a meeting with Ibrahim Al-Thawadi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, on the sidelines of the SCO Heads of State Council Meeting in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan.
Their meeting included a ceremony to sign the Memorandum of Understanding between the SCO Secretariat and the General Secretariat of the Arab League.
The parties welcomed the official establishment of relations between the two large regional organisations and agreed to take active efforts to implement the Memorandum.
