On 15 September 2022, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Zhang Ming met with Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), on the sidelines of the SCO Heads of State Council Meeting in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan.
The parties expressed their satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the two organisations and joint work on the practical implementation of the previously signed memorandums of understanding.
They noted the growing interest of the international community in the activities of the SCO and its achievements.
The parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the SCO Secretariat and the ESCAP Secretariat for the next period (2022-2025).
The officials had a thorough discussion on the further implementation of the Memorandum.
Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana invited Zhang Ming to attend the regular ESCAP session in Bangkok in May 2023.
In 2012, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the Secretariat of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
